About Us
Since 1990, Tomchei Shabbos has provided meals to needy families in Bergen County. During this time, over a million meals have been distributed to Jewish families in Bergen County. Each week these households receive Shabbos food, bringing a sense of normalcy and tranquility into the home.
Selfless Dedication
Over 100 volunteers pack and distribute the Shabbos food every week. This ensures that nearly 100% of our operating expenses go directly towards the purchase of food items such as eggs, vegetables, fruit, fish, chicken, Challah and other essential basics. We have not cancelled a delivery in over fifteen years.
Short & Long Term Relief
Occasionally, families are faced with unexpected events that put a tremendous financial strain on them. These financial challenges can last 2 weeks, 2 months or even 2 years. Tomchei Shabbos is here to help by providing Shabbos food to community families regardless of how short or long it is required.
Serving Local Families
Tomchei Shabbos of Bergen County fills a tremendous need in our community. It is entirely dependent on local support — whom else can be expected to feel the burden of our friends and neighbors? Please, open your heart and ease the pain of families that are suffering.
How We Give Matters
Tomchei Shabbos does not insist on uncovering uncomfortable details. The need for help is brought to our attention and confirmed with local organizations and rabbis. Each delivery is done with dignity, respect and the utmost discretion. Our drivers are carefully selected for each route and there are many ways to obtain a package anonymously. We fundamentally believe that how we give is just as essential as what we give.
